June 2009:

Let’s go for a row!

Camping at the Lake

We have made almost every summer a camping trip with a big rowing boat called the church boat. This kind of boat has about seven pairs of oars, and there is enough room for 2-4 families, lots of equipment, foodstuff and beverages too! It is nice to travel without motor, noise or hurry. Camping with a rowing boat is cool even when it is hot. Water will beat the extra heat, and wind will keep mosquitos away.

Mellow Midsummer Festival!

Midnight Sun

Greetings from Finnish Mid Summer Party. It is midnight, and we still can see the colours. In Lapland the sun is shining all night long. Ah, this is life!

World Environment Day 2009

Human activity consumes natural resources

The theme of World Environment Day 2009 is “Your Planet Needs You!” So let’s do something to tackle the climate change.

One nice way is to consume less and act to save the natural ecosystems.

Achim Steiner, UN Under-Secretary-General and UNEP Executive Director, says: “Tens of billions of dollars are being earmarked for carbon capture and storage at power stations with the CO2 to be buried underground or under the sea…. But perhaps the international community is overlooking a tried and tested method that has been working for millennia, the biosphere. By some estimates the Earth’s living systems might be capable of sequestering more than 50 gigatones (Gt) of carbon over the coming decades with the right market signals.”

More daily do something tips.

Sowing season in the garden

Garden planning

Sowing season is nice. Garden looks neat and organized. No weeds, just tidy rows of seedlings and seeds!
